What type of organization would you rather be?In our recent session at an AFP Manitoba chapter meeting, “Engagement & Stewardship: Beyond the Newsletter”, we challenged participants to think about charities they support, and those that they don’t or won’t. We found out that those organizations who engage in respectful, meaningful, passionate and personal asks, and who follow up with donors in a timely manner, garner support. Those that operate through impersonal appeals (telemarketers, asking at the till, non-personalized direct mail), offensive messages and methods, asking too often, and who provide no follow up or stewardship, turn off donors.
